Look at the complete edge of the room
Bring together the floor sample, wall color, door casing, and proposed baseboard profile. A profile that looks right by itself may feel different beside the existing casing or at a doorway. Ask your installer to check the transitions and junctions before you order.
AFD’s molding range includes baseboards, casing, and crown molding. Treat them as separate items on the material list so the profile and quantity for each are clear.
Measure in the right units
Flooring is usually planned by area; baseboard is planned by length. A flooring square-foot total will not tell you how much baseboard to order. Record the wall runs and have your installer account for openings, corners, joints, and cuts.
Confirm the actual length of the trim pieces being supplied. Ask your installer to convert the measurements into a practical piece count. Add any required transitions or other accessories as separate line items.
Confirm the material and the finish
Check the profile dimensions, material, surface preparation, and intended use in the supplier’s documentation. Ask how the trim will be finished and whether the selected product is appropriate for the location.
Coordinate clearances with the flooring’s installation requirements. The floor manufacturer’s instructions and your installer’s measurements should guide the detail; an inspiration photo cannot establish the required expansion space.
Send one coordinated request
A useful inquiry includes the flooring collection and color, baseboard profile, casing requirements, room measurements, and timing. Include a photo of existing trim if you are trying to coordinate an addition or replacement.
- Flooring: collection, color, SKU, and estimated area
- Baseboards: profile, dimensions, measured length, and piece count
- Door casings and transitions: separate measurements
- Project ZIP code and desired material timing
